As the founder and CEO of the Stowelink Foundation, I recently had the privilege of leading a remarkable team of volunteers in an ambitious screening campaign known as May Measurement Month. This campaign, which took place in Kasarani subcounty in Nairobi, was a resounding success, screening and educating 14,000 individuals on cardiovascular health, particularly focusing on the Githurai area.
Cardiovascular health screening is crucial for early detection and prevention of heart-related diseases. The importance of these screenings cannot be overstated, as they provide individuals with vital information about their health, enabling them to take proactive steps to manage their heart health. In many communities, particularly in underserved areas like Githurai, access to such screenings is limited. Our campaign aimed to bridge this gap by bringing essential health services directly to the people.

Reflecting on our journey, I feel an immense sense of pride and fulfillment. Leading this campaign was both a challenge and an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of thousands. One of the most rewarding aspects was witnessing the dedication and enthusiasm of our team of volunteers. Their commitment to the cause was evident in their tireless efforts to reach as many people as possible, ensuring that every individual had the chance to be screened and educated about cardiovascular health.

A significant highlight of our campaign was the innovative mobilization strategies we adopted. Recognizing the power of sports as a unifying and engaging activity, we leveraged this by organizing four football matches over the four weeks of the campaign. These matches not only provided entertainment and physical activity but also served as effective platforms for raising awareness and conducting screenings. The football field became a place of health education, where people gathered to watch the games and, at the same time, received crucial information about their heart health.
Our approach proved to be incredibly effective. The football matches drew large crowds, creating opportunities for us to reach a wider audience. We set up screening stations around the field, and as the games proceeded, our volunteers engaged with the spectators, offering free screenings and educational materials. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many individuals expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn about their cardiovascular health in such an accessible and enjoyable way.

This experience has reaffirmed my belief in the power of community-driven initiatives and the importance of innovative approaches in health campaigns. The success of the May Measurement Month campaign in Kasarani is a testament to what can be achieved when passionate individuals come together with a common goal. It also underscores the critical need for continued efforts in cardiovascular health education and screening, particularly in underserved communities.
I am deeply grateful to everyone who participated in and supported this campaign. Together, we have made a significant impact on the health and well-being of thousands of people. Moving forward, I am committed to continuing our work in promoting cardiovascular health and exploring new ways to engage and educate communities. The journey may be challenging, but the rewards—measured in the smiles and improved health of those we serve—are immeasurable.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Let’s continue to strive for a healthier future, one heartbeat at a time.
