Ogweno Stephen Presents NCDs 365 at the 6TH Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Conference in Malta

Stowelink Foundation, under the leadership of Ogweno Stephen, showcased its groundbreaking digital health initiative, NCDs 365, at the 6th Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Conference in Malta. This project has redefined health literacy and advocacy in sub-Saharan Africa, utilizing platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter to reach over 3.5 million people with critical information on non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

Ogweno highlighted the app’s integration of self-monitoring tools, mental health tests, and multimedia resources to empower users with holistic health management solutions. Through partnerships with community health workers and civil society organizations across 10 countries, NCDs 365 has successfully bridged gaps in health literacy and advocacy.

Additionally, Ogweno presented on “Harnessing Social Media for Tackling Transfats,” detailing a collaborative project with the International Institute of Legislative Affairs (IILA). This initiative utilized digital advocacy to spotlight the dangers of industrial trans fats, which contribute to rising cardiovascular diseases. Combining online campaigns with policy advocacy, the project emphasized the urgent need for stricter regulations and healthier food systems.

The reception at the conference was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing the importance of digital tools in addressing NCDs and policy change. These milestones showcase Ogweno Stephen’s unwavering commitment to leveraging technology and advocacy to drive impactful change in global health.
