Mental health and well-being are integral to our personal and professional lives. This week, I had the privilege of co-moderating a thought-provoking panel session hosted by the Commonwealth Scholarships Alumni Association of Kenya (CSAAK) and the British Council Nairobi. The event, held during a breakfast meeting, marked the launch of the upcoming CSAAK Health Day, celebrating the 65-year legacy of Commonwealth Scholarships.
The discussions focused on mental health challenges faced by scholars transitioning back to their home countries after studying abroad. We delved into the importance of building support systems and fostering well-being for individuals balancing the demands of leadership, career, and personal life.
Notable guests, including Annabel Boud, CEO of the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission, and the Director of Higher Education from Kenya’s Ministry of Education, graced the occasion. Their presence highlighted the commitment of both the Commonwealth and the Kenyan government to empowering scholars and advancing sustainable development through education.
Mental health is a cornerstone of any thriving community, and addressing it requires a collective effort. As we gear up for CSAAK Health Day, I’m excited to continue these vital conversations and work towards actionable solutions that promote mental wellness among scholars and the broader community.
Let’s keep the dialogue going! Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and create a culture of support and resilience.
