As someone deeply passionate about real estate and urban development, I’ve always been fascinated by innovative projects that redefine how people live, work, and thrive within communities. During a recent visit to Mombasa, I had the privilege of touring Gulf Capital’s impressive real estate development, Starehe Point, alongside Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and his team.

Starehe Point is a shining example of modern residential development. Designed as a “15-minute mini-town,” the project seamlessly integrates residential housing with a wide array of social amenities. From swimming pools and playgrounds to walking areas, community zones, and local shops, the development ensures residents have everything they need within a short distance. What makes it even more remarkable is its commitment to affordability and inclusivity, providing superb living environments while keeping costs accessible.

This tour marked my fifth interaction with Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, and it was a privilege to walk through the development with such a visionary leader. As we explored the site, we discussed the elements that make Starehe Point stand out as a model for sustainable urban living. From its focus on community-driven spaces to its thoughtful design, it was clear that this project embodies innovation and a deep understanding of what residents need to thrive.

As a public health advocate, I was particularly drawn to the subtle yet impactful health-focused design aspects of the development. The walking spaces encourage physical activity, while the sports facilities promote active lifestyles. Waste sorting provisions align with environmental sustainability, and the well-ventilated housing units enhance indoor air quality—an essential factor in overall wellness. These elements demonstrate how real estate can go beyond providing housing to fostering holistic well-being for communities.

Starehe Point is more than just a housing development; it’s a blueprint for the future of urban living in Kenya. It aligns perfectly with the global push for sustainable cities and communities, a key focus of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11). It was inspiring to see how such projects can positively transform not only the physical landscape but also the lives of the people who call them home.

This experience also reignited my personal aspirations to one day own a home in a development as thoughtfully designed as Starehe Point. It reinforced my belief that real estate has the potential to drive social change, improve public health, and build stronger communities.
