Moving From Dialogue to Action: Implementing Sport and Health Strategies for NCDs Advocacy

Following my incredible experience at the Sport and Health Capacity Development Initiative workshop at KCA University, the conversation now shifts to action. We’ve had insightful discussions, shared perspectives, and refined learning materials—but what comes next?

Translating Knowledge into Real Impact

This initiative, guided by IOC’s Olympism365 Strategy and WHO’s Global Action Plan on Physical Activity (GAPPA), isn’t just about workshops and discussions. It’s about creating real, lasting impact in how we approach sports and NCDs advocacy in Kenya.

With the Level 1 course now available as an online, self-paced learning module, our next step is to refine and implement the Level 2 course—a 12-hour program designed to further strengthen collaboration between sports and health professionals.

But beyond structured training, there is an urgent need for:

Community Engagement: We must take these insights and apply them at the grassroots level, encouraging local communities to embrace physical activity as a key strategy for preventing NCDs.

Policy Influence: Strengthening policies that integrate sports into NCDs prevention programs, ensuring that governments and organizations invest in sports as a public health solution.

Inclusive Sports Programs: Ensuring that people living with NCDs and disabilities have access to tailored physical activity programs that promote health and well-being.

A Personal Takeaway: Why This Work Matters

Reflecting on my journey in NCDs advocacy in Kenya, it’s clear that physical inactivity is one of the biggest, yet most overlooked risk factors for NCDs. The statistics don’t lie—sedentary lifestyles contribute to heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity, all of which are on the rise.

This is why I’m fully committed to ensuring that the lessons learned from this workshop translate into actionable steps that will change how Kenya approaches health and wellness. The collaboration between sports and health sectors is key, and through sustained effort, we can create a movement that champions physical activity as a fundamental right for every Kenyan.

What’s next? I’ll be working closely with stakeholders to push for stronger partnerships, advocate for increased funding, and promote awareness campaigns that will mobilize communities to take charge of their health through sports.

Join me on this journey as we turn ideas into action and work towards a healthier, more active Kenya!
