My first time in Malaga, Spain was nothing short of magical. From meaningful conversations with global health advocates to the quiet moments wandering sun-soaked alleys, Malaga left a lasting impression — one that I’m excited to share through this photo journal.

As someone who travels often for advocacy and global public health forums, it’s rare to find a place that balances rich culture, warmth, and purpose so seamlessly. Malaga, a historic coastal city in southern Spain’s Andalusia region, is known for its Mediterranean charm, artistic heritage (it is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso), and vibrant modern energy. But to me, it became more than a postcard destination — it became a space of reflection, inspiration, and connection.

📍 Moments That Mattered Most
From the moment I landed, the city greeted me with sunshine and smiles. The streets were alive with a rhythmic blend of Spanish tradition and cosmopolitan flair. Palm-lined boulevards opened up to plazas filled with musicians, laughter, and the rich scent of freshly baked tapas.
But what made Malaga special wasn’t just the beauty — it was the people.

Attending the European Congress on Obesity (ECO 2025), I had the opportunity to meet advocates, researchers, policymakers, and fellow changemakers from across the world. These weren’t just professional interactions; they were deep, meaningful exchanges about health equity, shared lived experiences, and the collective responsibility we carry in building a healthier world.
I was proud to represent Kenya and Africa in conversations about obesity, youth engagement, and system-wide change. And while the discussions inside the conference halls were powerful, so too were the moments outside them — walking the old town with colleagues, exchanging stories by the sea, and realizing just how connected our work is, despite the miles between us.

📸 My Photo Journal
In this photo journal, you’ll see glimpses of my experience — not just as a public health advocate, but as a first-time visitor soaking in the vibrancy of Malaga:
- The Alcazaba fortress standing tall over the city, reminding me of resilience and history
- A morning walk along La Malagueta Beach, where the waves echoed the rhythm of calm and clarity
- Moments from the ECO 2025 sessions — voices, faces, and ideas that will continue to shape my advocacy
- A late evening dinner filled with laughter, new friendships, and shared dreams for a better world

🌍 What I Took Home
Beyond the views and the tapas, Malaga gifted me a renewed sense of purpose and global connection. It reminded me that every city holds lessons — if we’re willing to look closely, listen deeply, and step outside our comfort zones.

This trip was not just about being present at a global congress. It was also about being fully present in a new city, embracing its pulse, and allowing it to shape the next chapter of my journey.

So here it is — Malaga, through my lenses. A mix of advocacy and adventure. A city that met me with warmth and sent me home with a full heart.
