Ogweno Stephen Joins Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) Workshop to Strengthen Diabetes Advocacy in Kenya

On 5th July, Ogweno Stephen, a leading Kenyan health advocate, joined the Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) workshop, a critical dialogue aimed at improving diabetes care and advocacy in Kenya. The workshop brought together experts, advocates, and stakeholders to address the growing challenges faced by people living with diabetes and obesity, while highlighting the role of innovation in transforming healthcare.

The discussions focused on:

  • The struggles of people living with obesity and the direct links to diabetes management.
  • The need to adopt new innovations like CGM for better monitoring and quality of life.
  • The persistent gaps in insurance coverage for diabetes treatment and management in Kenya.
  • Next steps in diabetes advocacy, including how communities, advocates, and policymakers can collaborate for sustainable solutions.

As a Kenyan health advocate, Ogweno Stephen actively participated in the workshop, sharing his experience from years of work in NCD advocacy and contributing to the planning of future diabetes advocacy efforts. His contribution emphasized the urgency of integrating innovative technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring into Kenya’s health systems to improve outcomes for those living with diabetes.

“Diabetes advocacy must go beyond awareness—it must push for innovation, accessibility, and equity in care. Tools like CGM can change lives if made available and affordable,” noted Ogweno Stephen.

This workshop marks another milestone in Ogweno Stephen’s ongoing commitment to addressing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in Kenya. By engaging in advocacy that connects policy, innovation, and community needs, he continues to stand out as a Kenyan health advocate driving change.
