Ogweno Stephen, a leading Kenyan health advocate, has officially launched Season 5 of the African NCDs Champions Podcast. This new season, featuring 23 powerful weekly episodes, was developed in collaboration with Plan International Kenya and brings forward the stories, insights, and experiences of youth leaders from Kibera and Mathare who are implementing the Young Health Programme (YHP).

The African NCDs Champions Podcast, founded and hosted by Stephen Ogweno, is a flagship platform dedicated to amplifying African voices in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This latest season dives deep into the lived realities of young people tackling health challenges in urban informal settlements, with each episode capturing the authentic voices of youth leaders actively engaging their peers on NCD prevention and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH).

The Young Health Programme in Kenya, funded by AstraZeneca and implemented by Plan International Kenya and AMURT, is a five-year initiative focused on reducing risky behaviors that lead to NCDs and improving the overall well-being of youth aged 10–24. The program addresses critical health issues such as:

• Harmful alcohol use
• Tobacco use
• Unhealthy diets
• Physical inactivity
• Risky sexual behaviors

By integrating emotional well-being and SRHR, the YHP empowers youth to make informed health choices. The podcast brings these themes to life through real-world stories and practical lessons from youth champions working directly in their communities.

The podcast not only raises awareness but also supports advocacy, community engagement, and capacity building efforts that align with the goals of the YHP. With thousands already reached by the program, the podcast aims to further amplify its impact.
