It’s not every day that life gifts you a tour of one of the world’s most historic universities , guided by someone as inspiring as Serene Singh, a Rhodes Scholar, Dalai Lama Fellow, the National All-American Miss 2020-2023, and a dear friend. During my recent trip to the United Kingdom, I had the privilege of spending a full day with Serene exploring Oxford , and what a day it was.

Oxford greeted us with its classic charm: soft rain, fleeting sunshine, and centuries of history around every corner. We began our morning at a cozy local wrap shop, fueled by good coffee and laughter, before heading into one of Oxford’s beloved bookstores. The smell of old pages and fresh stories perfectly set the tone for the day.

Our next stop was the iconic Rhodes House, home to generations of Rhodes Scholars. Walking through its halls felt like stepping into history , walls lined with legacy, dreams, and intellectual pursuit. Seeing Serene’s own book in the Rhodes Library was one of the day’s proudest and most moving moments. We even paused to paint flowers with crayons , a gentle reminder that creativity and reflection are as vital to growth as academic rigor.

From there, we ventured to the Radcliffe Camera Library, one of Oxford’s most photographed landmarks, followed by the University Church of St. Mary. The architecture, detail, and sheer history of these sites were breathtaking. Our final major stop was the Great Hall at Christ Church College, famously featured in the Harry Potter films , a magical end to an already extraordinary day. Before heading back to London, we made a quick visit to the Oxford Union, where generations of leaders have debated and shaped ideas that continue to influence the world.

Oxford reminded me that knowledge, curiosity, and human connection are the true foundations of progress , whether in global health, education, or leadership. Spending the day with Serene reaffirmed the importance of friendship, mentorship, and shared purpose across borders.

This journey through Oxford wasn’t just about history or sightseeing. It was about gratitude , for learning, for connection, and for the shared pursuit of a better world.xford wasn’t just about history or sightseeing.
