I’M NOW AN AUTHOR OF A CHILDREN’S BOOK: STORIES BY THE FIREPLACE

Stories by the fireplace is the most recent collection to my authorship journey. It’s a children’s book that aims at educating our children on the cultures and traditions of our communities in Kenya. This project was a massive undertaking led by Joyce Wanjiru who brought together 7 coauthors to go back to their communities, fetch the traditional stories that the grandparents loved to tell and immortalize them through this book project.

This piece of work is such an important contribution to literature especially since we are continuously losing our traditional stories with more urbanization and less engagement with our grandparents who used to pass these stories by word of mouth from generation to generation. This project at the core aimed at really immortalizing and solidifying these stories and enabling children to learn stories from their cultures and traditions but also from other cultures and traditions.

Personally, I contributed 5 stories from the Luo community.  Stories that educate about our heroes, their lives, their wins and their fails so that we can learn from them. I am very excited now to begin sharing these stories with the bigger community once the book launches on the 26th March 2022.
